So. Guess what I’ve been doing, inbeteween checking out awesome lego builds, cleaning up cat-sick, scraping Welsh mud off the outside (and INSIDE- YAY) of the car and engaging in super-polite passive-aggressive childcare diary-organisation with my better half? Go on. You’ll NEVER guess.

Oh. You got it. ERCOL COVERS. Check out lovely Harriet’s (and by lovely, I mean, SHE PAID ME MONEY. MONEY I CAN SPEND ON LEGO/ MUDDY CAR VALETS/ CAT LITTER) house up for sale in that London. I have no idea where all the detritus of modern living (lego, cat litter trays, car shampoo) has gone in this house. I can only assume she has moved everything into a bunker under the garden. Anyway, you will notice that this paragon of modern free-flowing living features TWO, count ’em, TWO Ercols what I fancied up. They look tiny in these pictures, but they were taken with an Estate Agent Camera (thus bending time and space). Honestly, my Ercol stuff is big enough for humans. It also looks pretty good in houses stuffed with stuff.

Do YOU have an Ercol that needs some TICKETY-BOODLING?

Tea For Two in Blue & Grey

Yup. I got me ANOTHER of these bad boys. Your classic Ercol  two-seater, tricked out in Camira Craggan 100% wool. One side in grey, t’other in blue so you can ‘express your individuality’, just like Nicolas Cage in ‘Wild At Heart’. Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket, ahem, sofa, represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom? Well IT DOES. Was that Cage’s own hair? I’m completely obsessed with Nicolas Cage’s hairpieces. Oh. I think I’m gettin’ a little off message here.

*Pulls self together*

For sale now on the ole Tickety-Boo website and through those mercenary clustercusses at Ebay.

SEEEEEAT the WOOOOOORRRRRRLD

It’s Christmastime. There’s no need to sit on the floor.

I’ve just stuck a bunch of l o v e r l y new Ercols up in the shop. There are some blondes, a moody grey number and something completely pretty in pink. Just like Molly Ringwald, but more comfortable to sit on. Some of these will be representin’ today at the Colston Hall Made in Bristol Gift fair. I will be upstairs, trying not to spend more money than I earn, batting off the bargain-hunters with my sang froid and general unavailability. Or else I will be asleep in one of the chairs, a victim of some senseless Seasonal mulled cider drinking.

It’s free to get in but if spotted, I might not let you leave without my crack squadron of pickpockets relieving you of your heard-earned pennies. Bring your pennies and your bo-squiddlies and your paypal deets cos you NEED to SHOP LOCALLY this Christmas. It’s what Santa would want, (spoiler alert) if he ACTUALLY EXISTED.

Blue Monday

It’s beginning to look like Tickety Boo has a schtick- making GORGE ERCOL COVERS. Check it- grey blue wool with blue piping. This is for Seralynne in Wales. What great taste those Welsh folk have. Got a knackered bit of  Ercol? Let Tickety Boo wave her magic overlocker and pins and do her voodoo thing…

A Farewell To Arm(chair)s.

It is with heavy hearts that we will be bidding a farewell to our workshop at the end of this week. Yes, we paid our rent. Yes, it was lovely and light. Yes, we got a fair-ish amount of work done here. Umm, yes, it WAS up two flights of stairs. But it’s been earmarked for demolition. Honestly, it wasn’t something we said. If you’re a fan of the Nelson Street  street art you better get down here toot sweet ‘cos we’ll be losing the giant fox I’ve been daydreaming over for the past year. You can also kiss goodbye to the magnificent Marvel Mural Competition. I’ve just snapped two pieces in situ. They are up in the shop now. Please start a flurry of purchases so I don’t have to move ALL THIS STUFF to the new studio over the road at Bridewell Island. Honestly. I don’t know where I’m going to stick it all (no suggestions, thank you).

Somewhere-Over-The-Rainbow Celebration Ercol Chair

WP_20140402_5951 (1)

Finished this cracker today. It’s mostly in grey marl wool felt, but flipped with a Rainbow Geometry in cotton-linen. Top-stitching, zipping, you know, the usual. Only a moderate amount of swearing went into this effort. And no blood. Make me an offer. It’ll be in the shop as soon as the sun comes out and I can snap it properly (sometime in September, then).

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Just finished the new seat for Harriet- ooh those Ercol 2-seaters are a little bit wonderful.

Dressed with 2 of my new Rainbow cushions. My Sochi-unfriendly lovelies. Say it loud, I’m-lots-of-colours-in-a-dazzling-geometry, and I’m proud!

Time to PANIC

I don’t want to rock your boat, but you’re TOTALLY RUNNING OUT OF TIME to get a certain special other half/ mother/ mother-in-law/ dad/ sibling/ spoilt pet/ boss/ your good self a hand-made, cruelty-free, GIFT.  There’s been a bit of a last-minute flurry- but I’ve still got some l o v e r l y cushions for your happy bottoms (not all of them are on the website). Come and try ’em out- I’ll be at the workshop, in town, quite a bit this week. I’ll also be harnessing the reindeer and doing a drop of deliveries later in the week if you’re bed-bound and don’t trust the Royal Mail.

Happy Bottoms

As part of Tickety-Boo’s mission to make everyone more comfortable, we are having a quick clear-out, I mean, a seasonal sale. 20% off all cushions on checkout with the code: HAPPYBOTTOMS. We have also discounted some other items because, frankly, the workshop is becoming a hazard with all the furniture in it, in various states of undress. Make me an offer. We need the money- the kitten is eating us out of house and home and the boy is expecting LOTS of lego come Christmas.

Remember: we all deserve HAPPYBOTTOMS.

Merry Christmas from Kitty

Oh, what a wonderful thing to be, A healthy grown up busy busy bee…

Laydeez & Gennelmen, Tickety-Boo is proud to present for your delight, delectation and bottom comfort:

One Sun & Sky yellow & blue wool mix Ercol Windsor Arm Chair

One Ercol Windsor Armchair in geometric Zoffany

IMG_0738

One BONKERS Cintique in raspberry with frankly alarming tribal detailing. I think I was having a funny turn when I put this one together. I was certainly feeling peculiar by the time I’d finished it. But that might just’ve been the fine paste wax.

IMG_0725

And for pudding, get your cocktail shaker out- there’s this little B E A U T Y…

IMG_0719

They’re all for sale.

I rather suspect the raspberry one will be for sale for quite some time.

“Oh, what a wonderful thing to be,
A healthy grown up busy busy bee;
Whiling away all the passing hours
Pinching all the pollen from the cauliflowers.
I’d like to be a busy little bee,
Being as busy as a bee can be.
Flying around the garden brightest ever seen,
Taking back the honey to the dear old queen.”

Back To School

OK. So, we made it through the summer holidays without a murder, or even a call to Childline. *Pats self on back*. We’re back in the workshop. We’ve sharpened our scissors, picked up our pins and dusted down the bag of emergency jelly babies in anticipation of getting some work done which doesn’t involve LEGO, glue-sticks, mud or bicycles.

First up, I’ve been splashing out on  lots of a m a z i n g african print fabrics. Mostly for fashioning bonkers frocks for myself, but some accidentally slipped and landed on this enormous feather cushion. BRAVO! Tickety-Tribal?

WP_20130927_004

Next up, this GORGE Ercol 2-seater. Pimped out in 100% Camira wool weave, with a blue reverse, for your more colourful alter-ego. Fed up with the original back cushions, which totally hide the beautiful back spindles, I went a bit crazy with the electric turkey knife (whoops, there goes another trade secret) and a mahoosive block of foam to create *drumroll, please*, my very own lozenge back cushion. Pretty nifty, non?

WP_20130927_006

And finally, I finished Yael’s chair. Sorry Yael. I know it took AGES- but when the client wants PLUM trim and more buttons, well, I think you’ll agree, it was worth the wait. It has to be said, the original chair was pretty gross, so I think we nailed it. This chair will be on view in Yael’s house this weekend on Bristol’s Green Doors Weekend. Yael has done some amazing hemp and lime insulation and plasterwork. Go and admire it. BUT DON”T BE SITTING ON THE CHAIR. For more about Bristol Green Rooms see http://www.bristolgreendoors.org/

Ercol Daybed Dreaming

OK. So I finally got my paws on one. Yes. I did. I love it, even though the old foam smells of old ladies. I love it, even though it’s covered in 100% flammable porridgey ‘wool’. I love it, even though the webbing is sagging. I love it, even though I’m gonna have to sell it.

Reader, I WILL re-upholster it.

Suggestions, please. What would YOU like to see on this absoflippinglutely lovely piece of British design history?
