Reclaimed and Re-upholstered

Blue Monday

It’s beginning to look like Tickety Boo has a schtick- making GORGE ERCOL COVERS. Check it- grey blue wool with blue piping. This is for Seralynne in Wales. What great taste those Welsh folk have. Got a knackered bit of  Ercol? Let Tickety Boo wave her magic overlocker and pins and do her voodoo thing…

Somewhere-Over-The-Rainbow Celebration Ercol Chair

WP_20140402_5951 (1)

Finished this cracker today. It’s mostly in grey marl wool felt, but flipped with a Rainbow Geometry in cotton-linen. Top-stitching, zipping, you know, the usual. Only a moderate amount of swearing went into this effort. And no blood. Make me an offer. It’ll be in the shop as soon as the sun comes out and I can snap it properly (sometime in September, then).

Spring Has Sprung

Ahh. So it’s been exactly a year since Tickety-Boo left the comfort of the back room and into the workshop at Bridewell Space. I love the view from my window almost as much as I don’t love the fact that we are on the second floor, without lifts.

The team celebrated with (very demure) gin & tonics and I finished Andrew and Gilly’s re-covering. It’s chartreuse velvet with multi-coloured velvet buttons. Hmmmm, stroke-able. Smoothe smoothe, stroke stroke. MEOOOOWWWWW.

In other news, our spin-off commercial enterprise toasted installing a gabillion buttoned benches and banquettes at Greenbank’s newest amenity, after the dog poo and Jim’s Bottle shop, the rather fabulous Greenbank Pub. Revived by the Zazu’s team and full of delicious pizzas, fancy beers, decent red wine (if our baptism on Thursday was anything to go by) and frankly totally unnecessarily shots of Sambucca (if our hangovers on Friday were anything to go by).  It’s my local. I will be the lady in the corner, drinking red and looking underneath the banquettes for stray staples. For more on The Greenbank- https://www.facebook.com/nick.pennock.33?fref=ts

Somewhere over the rainbow…

Just finished the new seat for Harriet- ooh those Ercol 2-seaters are a little bit wonderful.

Dressed with 2 of my new Rainbow cushions. My Sochi-unfriendly lovelies. Say it loud, I’m-lots-of-colours-in-a-dazzling-geometry, and I’m proud!

Ercol Daybed Dreaming

OK. So I finally got my paws on one. Yes. I did. I love it, even though the old foam smells of old ladies. I love it, even though it’s covered in 100% flammable porridgey ‘wool’. I love it, even though the webbing is sagging. I love it, even though I’m gonna have to sell it.

Reader, I WILL re-upholster it.

Suggestions, please. What would YOU like to see on this absoflippinglutely lovely piece of British design history?

Club Tropicana Stool

It somehow puts me in mind of Miami Vice. A delirious hot pink sky setting over the tranquil blue waters of the Caribbean. But without the floating bodies of drug-dealers or global-warming-speeding speedboats. I might do more of these. They make me think fondly of the boys from Wham!

Sanderson One Two Three

Client bought the MOST BEAUTIFUL fabric from Sanderson. I spent about a week wrestling with antediluvian Parker Knoll webbing tape, grommets, etc. There was blood. Really. I nailed my finger to the underside of one of them (don’t worry- the chair was FINE). The red came out SPIFFING but the green fought me all the way. But I WON. Just sayin’.

It’s a BEAUTY.

Rare upright Ercol settle-sofa. Spiffing grey weave with yellow colour-pop piping and tufted scatter cushions. All new fillings. Proper webbing. VERY Tickety-Boo.

More pictures to follow. In the SHOP soon. Contact me if you want to bags it.

Dangerous Liaisons

Another re-cover job for the dental chair couple. This piece of repro furniture was very Dangerous Liasons so I made sure to thoroughly scotchguard it so any dropped profiteroles (or worse) came off nice and easy. The paisley they chose looked properly decadent. I got to try out my double-piping foot, play with a glue-gun, learnt a lot and now affix double piping to anything I can get my hands on. It looks pretty good on furniture. Not so good glued to fingers, plates, floorboards, small boys…
